SUMMER CAMP, 2008
- Summer camp for 2008 has just passed for troop 35. It was indeed a very good week at Camp Rotary. The week began on Sunday July 27th, as with past camping events, troop 35 brought the rain with them again, having to set up camp in the rain. After camp was set up and the boys Medical forms were checked, it was time to take the swim test, we had 11 boys take their test and 10 were swimmers and 1 beginner. then it was time for dinner and opening ceremony. The rest of the week consisted of the boys going to various classes through out the camp working on many different Merit Badges. Each morning our site went through a site inspection by the camp staff. Our opening score on Monday was 95 with a perfect 100 the entire rest of the week. On Wednesday the troop was awarded with the Honor troop award for that day. Our Troop flag was then able to be flown below the flag of our country which was great honor. This was also the day of the family Barbecue ,so all parents that came up for the night were able to see our flag flying high with the flag of our country. After the Barbecue was the camp wide camp fire in which all troops performed a skit. On Thursday, our 1st year boys went on their 5 mile hike out to Bernie Pond. They returned to camp in the late afternoon tired, but still ready to go. The entire week was a true test of the boys endurance and they passed it with out hesitation. On Saturday we awoke at 6:00A.M. to break camp. After a quick breakfast it was time for the closing ceremony. During the ceremony we had the following awards given to the boys
- Troop Honor Camper: Ryan Wichelns
- Trail To First Class: Nicholas Ahern, Michael Nelson, Bryton Ellison, & Alex Brown
- Polar Bear Swim: Jonathan Brewster, Keanu Ellison
- Firemen Chit: Nicholas Ahern, Bryton Ellison, Michael Nelson , Alex brown
- Totem Chip: Nicholas Ahern , Bryton Ellison, Michael Nelson. Alex Brown
- National Junior Bowman: Wesley Chmielewski
- Baden Powell Honor Troop: Troop award
- Mountain Biking: Jonathan Brewster, Tyler Kondas
- We also had 10 boys earn a total of 51 Merit Badges which is an outstanding job, Five scouts have also earned enough merit badges to move up in rank pending a scoutmaster conference and board of review which will be held in September. A very special thank you goes out to Carolyn Kondas, Beth Brewster, Kristie Devoe, & Glenn Nelson who took time from their lives to spend a couple of days with us at camp. Your support and dedication to the boys is what makes this week happen and with out it, we could not give the boys this great experience of the outdoors, AGAIN , THANK YOU
